"My dad owned a an old car that he restored and added a Hemi engine to. He got gifted the nickname “Hemi” growing up, and his car was “The Green Hornet.” The following is a poem, shared with permission, by my uncle about a funny experience they had with my dad driving in his car:
“The Boy Scouts of Millville

As Young Boy Scouts in Millville town

We strove to live by the BSA code

But one hot July in the Seventies

To the Wyoming Uinta’s we drove

When we finished our hiking and camping

Of course we were always ready to dine

And on our way home we bought goodies to eat

And bought cool fireworks in the same line!

Now I know you are probably thinking

That just sounds like you had a great time!

But, while in Wyoming fireworks were legal

Once back in Utah they were seen as a crime

So our Scout Master stayed “On his Honor”

Pulled his truck to the side of the road

Into a trashcan in Sardine Canyon

All of our fireworks did go!

Once home I told Brad my dilemma.

The most mild mannered guy ever seen

Became the Superhero “Green Hornet” and

We jumped into his racing machine!

I don’t know if we beat the speed record

That over at the Salt Flats they set

But from where I sat in Brad’s passenger seat

We just about broke it I bet!

We arrived at that dumpster in no time

I then did a quick dumpster dive

And retrieved all of our “BSA” fireworks

Just in time for the Fourth of July!

My dad said this about his car: “This is my 426 cu. in. Hemi powered 200 mph + Hot Rod. I installed the Hemi and a 4 on the floor. I bought this car when it was new. It did have a 318 cu. in. engine and a manual 3 spd. on the steering column. My father nicknamed me Hemi, as this was my second hemi powered car. My first was a 55 Chevy 2 door. I also had a 57 Ford pick-up that I had put a hemi motor in. Thus the nickname Hemi began.”

I think it would be fun to honor Hemi and his Green Hornet and how he became a superhero to his little brother by rescuing the disposed of fireworks. The story would make for a cool sock design, I’d think!"
